BEEVILLE - William Benjamin “Bill” Wilson was born October 30th, 1936, to Dauchy (Doc) Benjamin Wilson and Mary Evelyn (Deane) Wilson in San Diego, Texas. He passed away October 28th, 2023, at the age of 86. Bill grew up in Kingsville and graduated from H.M. King High School. He went on to attend Texas A&M University and finished his degree at Texas Christian University. He also earned a master's degree in chemistry from Texas A&I in Kingsville. There he met Janet Steubing. They got married and had three boys. First, they lived in Corpus Christi and then in 1975 they moved to Beeville. Bill enjoyed coaching the boys in sports and helping them raise 4H and FFA animals. He was especially loved as a Little League Baseball coach.
Bill worked in several jobs over the years and finally retired at age 79 after serving as an adult probation officer for over 20 years. He impacted so many lives through this job and will be remembered by many for being such a kind spirit and a good listener. For many years Bill enjoyed taking trips with the Texas Ski Council. With these friends he was able to ski and explore many places from Colorado and California to Montreal and Whistler and Europe. He also loved to play and watch golf. He was a big reader. Bill was an avid photographer and wouldn’t ever be caught at a birthday, soccer game, or swim meet without his camera.
Bill will be greatly missed by his family including three sons: Ben (Mary) Wilson, Brad (Clara) Wilson, and Bart (Happy) Wilson. He was affectionately known as “Popo” by his nine grandchildren: William B. “Trey” Wilson III, Claire Wilson, Laura Wilson, Alyssa Wilson, Sophie Wilson, Sully Wilson, Ryan Rendon, Ignacio Swartz, and Miguel Swartz. He also had the blessing of three great grandchildren: Avery Wilson, Kathleen Manciaz, and Hannah Trevino.
A visitation will be held from 12 pm to 1 pm Saturday, November 4th at First Christian Church of Beeville with the funeral service at 1pm officiated by Rev. Maggie Mossler. Interment service will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville and social with refreshments back at the church afterwards.
