Violet Dell Cox Hutcheson, 87, passed away on June 15, 2024. She was born on April 18, 1937, in Oakville, Live Oak County, Texas to Ward and Ruby Dell Williams Cox. Violet married Karl Hutcheson on December 22, 1960, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Violet graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1955 and graduated from Howard Payne College with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Majors in Secondary Education and History and a Minor in English. Violet earned a Master of Library Science Degree from Texas Woman’s University.
Violet worked at the Memphis Public Library. As head librarian, Violet was instrumental in starting the library at Bee County College in Beeville, Texas. She was also the owner-manager of Timely Books and Thinks and had worked for Bee County Job Search Program. In Aransas Pass, Texas she worked for the Rural Coastal Bend Private Industry Council.
Violet moved to Big Spring, Texas in 1993, where she taught GED classes at the state prison. She was an active member of Baptist Temple Church in Big Spring and a member of First Baptist Church in Beeville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Ward and Ruby Dell Cox; husband, Karl Hutcheson; her daughter, Lacy Hall; one brother, Fred Cox and her sister, Linda “Lin” Ray Cox.
It’s with heartfelt gratitude that we thank the staff at 801 Gramman for the excellent and loving care they provided for Violet.
A graveside service will be held at the Mineral Cemetery on Saturday, June 22, at 10:00 am with Rev. Greg Traylor and longtime friend, Lee Rushing officiating.
