Sandra Munoz Obituary

Our beloved, beautiful, bad ass, Sandra Ann “Catfish” Muñoz, 58, of Beeville, Texas passed from her earthly life to her eternal home on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Sandra was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 23, 1964. She proudly acknowledged that fact with her infamous “Coon Ass” tattoo. She was preceded in death by her parents Juan D. Muñoz, Julia Muñoz Kala and Pablo Kala, sister “Nena” Muñoz Rincon, maternal grandparents Esteban and Elidia Arevalo, paternal grandparents Esmeregildo and Ramona Muñoz.

Sandra graduated in 1983 from A.C. Jones High School and moved to Alvin, Texas shortly thereafter. She was a volunteer firefighter in Santa Fe, Texas. The family moved to Pearland in 1994. Her career was in food service and retail. She was last employed at the Walmart Supercenter in Pearland, Texas. Sandra retired to the family home in Beeville, Texas in November 2019.

Sandra’s greatest achievement was being Mom to her three children Javier Garcia, Carlos “Brother” Zuniga and Mariah Zuniga. All three inherited her incredible sense of humor, keen wit and just a wee bit of her sarcasm. She and her ex-husband Carlos Zuniga Sr. also finished raising her sister’s children Ricky, Johnny Joe and Adrienne following Nena’s death in 1998. She nurtured and loved them just like her own

Sandra is also survived by her loving siblings, Elsa Munoz (Aletha Miller) of Corpus Christi, Juan Munoz, Jr. (Criselda Aguilar) of Robstown and Inez Baldarramos (Louis) of New Braunfels.

Sandra’s proudest accomplishment came through her involvement with BNet Radio. Once she took to the air waves there was no stopping her. She thoroughly enjoyed being in the studio with her Dynamic Duo partner Roland Martinez playing Tejano music, interviewing artists and most of all interacting with fans from all over the world. She loved the cruises, but her favorite event was Fan Fair in San Antonio, Texas. Her vibrant personality, genuine friendliness, contagious smile and charisma quickly made her an all-time fan favorite.

Her ultimate joy and utter fulfillment were being Wela/Grandma to Cambri, Skye, Noah, Anthony, and Jr. Her grandchildren were her heart and soul.

Sandra was a member of the St. James Catholic Church Choir. She enjoyed arts and crafts, especially Cricut, holiday decorating, cooking, traveling, cruises, bargain hunting and fishing. This year fishing became more of a therapy rather than a hobby. Salt life was essential to her healing regimen.

The tributes keep coming in and two of them really capture her true essence:

“She taught us all a big lesson on how to live. From the time she found out she had cancer she lived hard and didn't waste a single minute of whatever life she was going to have left. I never saw or heard her waste any of her precious time complaining about what she had been dealt, instead she didn't take one second for granted even till the very end. She reminded me of the saying " live hard so that when your time comes you can say. Wow what a ride!!”

“To have met her once was to remember her forever! The purest heart and the life of the party.”

She was a true warrior who faced the enemy with courage, dignity, and unyielding resolve.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor may be granted to MD Anderson Cancer Center (mdanderson.org), Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org) or St. James Catholic Church Faith Choir (Beeville, Texas).

The Munoz family extends our sincere gratitude to Dr. Joseph Larakers and staff (Beeville), MD Anderson – Dr. Zhao (Houston), MD Anderson Supportive Services Unit, Coastal Bend Cancer Center – Dr. Manalo and staff, Corpus Christi Medical Center – Doctors Regional – 2nd Floor Nursing Unit, AAdi Home Health and Hospice, St. James Faith Choir, BNet Radio and every single person who has sent prayers and expressions of kindness and support.
