Rafaela (Fela) Gonzalez Hernandez, 75, of Beeville, passed away on August 13, 2025. She was born in Beeville, Texas on November 21, 1949, to Ysa and Adelaida (Salazar) Gonzalez. She married Joe Rodriguez Hernandez on February 19, 1967.
Rafaela attended Our Lady of Victory School and went on to graduate from A.C. Jones High School in 1968. She later graduated from Bee County College in 1978 with an Associates of Arts degree. Rafaela continued her education in child Development where she received an associate’s degree in 2008. She worked as a teacher’s assistant and bus driver for the Beeville Independent School District where she retired from after 30 years of service. Rafaela continued working with BCAA as a teacher’s assistant, teacher and van driver. When BCAA lost funding, she went on to work for Pawnee I.S.D until she finally retired again in May 2025. She completed over 50 years of working as an educator in Beeville and Refugio.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ysa and Adelaida Gonzalez; one sister, Adelita Solis; two brothers, David Gonzalez and Juan Lopez; her son, Robert Lee Hernandez and two granddaughters, Elizabeth Miracle Gomez and Neveah Myracle Gomez.
Rafaela is survived by her daughter, Sandra Jean Hernandez Gomez (Alfred); her son, Joe Richard Hernandez (Starr) and one sister, Angelita Farias (Amado). She is also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm on Friday, August 22, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, August 23, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.
Serving as pallbearers are Frankie Lopez, Eric Garza, Sarah Perez, Austen Hernandez, Dylan Hernandez and Gavan Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Ray Campos, Roger Cano, Brian Bates and Matthew Gomez.
