Marie Meadows Obituary

Marie Barbara (Rasmussen) Meadows passed away on February 12, 2024, at home in Beeville, TX, surrounded by her family.

Marie was born on December 7, 1957, to Reuben Rasmussen and Mae Rasmussen, in Whitehall, Wisconsin.  She grew up on her family’s dairy farm, known as the Fair Oaks Dairy.  She loved the outdoors and developed a great fondness for horses, showing both horses and cattle at the Trempealeau County fair. Her ten years in 4-H were instrumental in her choice of a career in home economics education. Marie graduated from UW-Stout at Menomonie, Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She taught middle and high school Family and Consumer Science for nine years in Tomah, Wisconsin. She moonlighted in the fabric department at the Tomah Cash Store on weekends.

In 1990 she met her future husband, Randy Meadows, and they were married in 1991 at her home church, First Baptist Church, Whitehall, WI. Upon moving to Beeville, TX in 1991, Marie taught Family and Consumer Science at the middle and junior high school grade levels for the next 26 years. She was a long-time member of the Delta Kappa Gamma International teachers’ sorority.

Marie loved sewing, cross stitch, quilting, cooking and baking.  She shared her love for these endeavors with her students, neighbors, others in the community, and her family throughout the country. She was a member of the Calhoun County Quilt Guild located in Port Lavaca for over 20 years. During this time, she was able to complete more than 20 quilts a year which she gave to people for special occasions, touching the hearts of family and many friends.

Marie was a dedicated teacher with a zest for life, giving freely of her time, resources and knowledge to her students. She spent many hours of time above and beyond the classroom requirements, encouraging and mentoring her students and 4-H youth in important life skills so badly needed for success in school and life. She inspired many of her students to participate in the Bee County Homemakers Show and they did so not only with her help but by example. Marie, herself, won many blue ribbons competing in the Adult Division of the Bee County Junior Livestock Show with her food, sewing and quilting. She won Overall Grand Champion at least twice. Those Grand Champion items were auctioned at the Premium Sale at the end of the BCJLHS, bringing in several thousand dollars each time. The money she raised for those items went to the BCJLHS Scholarship Fund and was awarded to the Senior students who had participated in 4-H.  In 2023, Marie was rewarded for her years of service and dedication when the BCJLHS Board of Directors dedicated that year’s show to her, an award of which she was extremely proud.

In their many summer and holiday travels throughout all 50 states and all major national parks, Marie was inspired by the beauty and majesty of God’s creation. Throughout her life, Marie shared her love of God and her deep faith in Jesus Christ. She often shared the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the love of God with many new friends met during their travels.  Marie was a member of Beeville Baptist Church.

Marie was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Rasmussen; her parents, Reuben and Mae Rasmussen; father-in-law and mother-in-law Beecher and Pauline Meadows, and brother-in-law, Earnest Meador.

Marie is survived by her husband of 33 years, Randy Meadows; Sister-in-law Jo Ann Meador; brothers Ronald (Charlotte) Rasmussen, Richard (Kay) Rasmussen, 6 nieces and nephews, and 32 grand nieces and nephews.
