LAGARTO – Louis Anthony Rivera (Tony), 66, of Lagarto, Texas passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023. Tony was born on September 10, 1957, in San Antonio, Texas to Louis S. and Herminia (Minnie) Garza. He attended St. Cecelia’s Elementary and Central Catholic High School. He pursued a business degree at St. Mary’s University and San Antonio College. He belonged to the Boys Club during his youth and spent many years boxing in the Golden Gloves.
He married Marlene Eisenhauer in 1980 and they had three children. He started his first business with the help of his father in 1979 and continued with it until 1987 when he joined the Golden Corral Steak House family. He and his wife later opened another business, now known as River Bend Sports Bar. They later added a second business, the 534 Mesquite Inn in Lagarto. All their children were raised in the businesses, and he was extremely proud of that.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf, telling his life stories, and watching sports. He was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Garza, and Louis S. Rivera and by his brother, Rudy Garza.
He is survived by three children, Louis (Anthony) Rivera Jr and his wife, Miranda, Rochelle A. Rivera, and Jeremy A. Rivera; his siblings, Fred Garza, Ellen Garza, and Gloria Garza. Tony was also blessed with four grandchildren, Annalena N. Rivera, Illiana R. Rivera, Louis A. Rivera III (Tripp) and Dax Z. Rivera.
A visitation will be held at 10 am on Thursday, November 30, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 am. Interment will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville.
