Obituary

BEEVILLE – Linda “Lin” Ray Cox, 83 , passed away on January 6, 2023. She was born on February 6, 1939, in Center, Shelby County, Texas to Ward and Ruby Dell Williams Cox.

     Linda graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1957. She attended Howard Payne College and graduated with a teaching degree, majoring in elementary education.

     Linda taught school in Skidmore and Pawnee. She also taught on military bases in Germany and Japan. Upon returning to Beeville, she gave private art lessons and started her business, Made in Texas. Linda helped start the First Baptist Church School, where she taught and served on the school board. She was very involved with the Normanna Community. She was instrumental in saving the old Normanna bridge.

     Linda wrote the community news called Normanna Nuggets for the Beeville Bee-Picayune. She also wrote news articles for the Victoria Advocate.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Ward and Ruby Cox; her brother, Fred Cox and one niece, Lacy Hall.

     Linda is survived by her sister, Violet Hutcheson of Beeville; nephew, Brady Cox; niece, Jill Ankeny and a cousin, Bessie Cox of Beeville.

     A graveside service will be held at the Mineral Cemetery on Wednesday, January 11, at 10:30 am with Rev. Greg Traylor officiating.  

     Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church School or the South Texas Children’s Home Ministries.
