Joe B. Montez Obituary

MATHIS – Joe B. Montez, 78, passed away on December 27, 2022, at his residence. He was born on August 5, 1944, in Beeville, Texas to Antonio and Ofelia (Barrientez) Montez. He married Josephine Aleman on February 7, 1971, in Sinton, Texas. He was a graduate of the University of Texas, where he majored in Business Administration. Joe had served as the Beeville City Manager for many years and had also served as the Executive Director of the Bee Development Authority.


     He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Antonio B. “Pecas” Montez and one nephew, John David Montez.


     He is survived by his wife, Josephine Montez of Mathis; one daughter, Melanie Amorita (Laura Keenan) Montez of Austin; two sons, Joseph J. (Diana) Montez of Orange Grove and Humberto A (Priscilla) Montez of Beeville; one brother, Ruben (Theresa) Montez of Beeville and one sister, Angelita (Eric) Hill of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by three granddaughters; Alexis Montez, Aaralyn Montez, Aolani Montez and one step granddaughter Danielle Marquez.


     Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Thursday, Jan. 5, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Fr. Isaias Estepa as celebrant.


     Serving as pallbearers are Paul Strong, TJ Gomez, Stephen Flores, Alfredo Flores, Tyrone Hobson, Raymond Gaona, Ricky Vasquez and Juan Arguello. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Medina, Lionel Bentacud, George Cano, Ruben Bonilla, John Galloway, Joe Lopez and Eloy Rodriguez.
