Joe L. Benavidez, 79, of Beeville TX passed away October 15, 2024 in Corpus Christi, TX.
Joe was born in Bee County, TX on July 30, 1945, to Teofilo and Tomasa (Duran) Benavidez. As a young man he worked on farms and in the oil field before attending St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX. Joe became a teacher and worked at Our Lady of Victory, where he was also the choir director. Joe loved music and could play many different instruments. He was a faithful member of the Catholic Church and attended Our Lady of Victory and St. James in Beeville, and often sang in the choir.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters Maria Casarez, Inez Benavidez, and Gloria Benavidez; two brothers Amado Benavidez and Manuel “Lencho” Benavidez, and one son Jimmy Benavidez.
Joe is survived by his family which includes his children Ronnie (Gracie) Lane, Elizabeth Garcia and Sandra Simon; sisters Teodora Galvan, Ester Constante, Christina (Encarnacion) Perez, Catherine (Michael) Ludyjan; brothers Ernesto (Benancia) Benavidez, Santiago (Debbie) Benavidez; sisters-in-law Tomasita Benavidez and Sharon Benavidez; thirteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at St. James Catholic Church in Beeville, TX. Interment of Ashes will follow in Burnell, TX. Father Jacob Valayath will officiate.
