Janet Maria Cummings Carter

Janet Maria Cummings Carter was born on April 11, 1953, in Dallas, Texas to Adolphus and Maxine Lewis Cummings.  Janet passed from this world on October 5, 2023, a resident of Beeville, Texas. 

Janet was married to Joe Louis Carter, Jr. on December 20, 1986.   They adopted their daughter Amanda in 1992 while living in Colorado City, Texas.  Soon they moved to Beeville where they had lived for thirty years. They were blessed to be able to share residences in both Beeville and Homer, Alaska where Janet enjoyed having guests come to visit.  Janet loved to garden in both locations and was actively involved in the Garden Club, the Home Arts Club, and the Wednesday Luncheon Club (that meets on Thursday), all in Beeville.

Janet is survived by her husband, Joe Carter, Jr; their daughter, Amanda June Peña of Snyder, Texas; granddaughters, Jamie Lee and Ami Lynn Peña; her sister, Nancy Byrd and husband Rick of Summerfield, NC; her nephew, Trent Byrd, wife Lauren, and their sons, Nolan and Wyatt of Raleigh, NC; her niece Hannah Byrd Presnell and husband Eric and daughter Emma of Stokesdale, NC. She is also survived by her special aunts, Jo Ann Greene and Ruth Conti, along with many dear cousins.

Janet was rewarded by her opportunity to sponsor a child, a young girl in Rwanda.  With the help of translators, Janet and the young lady were pen pals.  Janet was happy to know that she had enabled the young lady to own a goat.  In lieu of flowers, Janet would be pleased by your memorial to the benevolence of your choice.

Visitation with the family will be held at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, October 13, 2023.

The funeral will be at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 14, 2023.

Burial and graveside service is at the Eden, Texas Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 16, 2023.

The family is thankful for the kind caregivers who Janet received as friends.  These caregivers include Rachael Martinez, Della Mendez, Anita Garcia, Diana Villa, and Marissa Macaluso.

Honorary Pallbearers are Trent Byrd, Eric Presnell, James Taylor, Jimmy Jackson, Pat Traxler, Tom McGregor and Gary Hitzfeld.
