Guadalupe Carabajal Obituary

Guadalupe Castillo Carabajal, known as “Lupe”, passed away on February 2, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas surrounded by her loving family. She was 85. She was born on March 9, 1939, in Beeville, Texas to Nasario and Paula (Vasquez) Castillo. Lupe had worked for the Beeville Independent School District.

She met the love of her life, Nicolas (Nick) Carabajal, and married on Nov. 3, 1952, in Clovis, New Mexico. They lived happily together for 59 years, until Nick’s passing. You would see them anywhere there was music as they loved to spend time dancing and going to early morning mass on Sundays at St. James Catholic Church. She loved singing with her brother on Friday and Saturday’s and with her late brother, Ramiro Vasquez Castillo and family. Lupe loved to sew dresses for her daughters and granddaughters. Her passion was fashion, and she loved to present herself beautifully.

She is preceded in death by parents, Nasario Castillo and Paula Vasquez Salinas; her husband, Nicolas Carabajal and a daughter, Herlinda Carabajal Silvas; granddaughter, Anna Gabriela Montelongo; siblings, Jose (Joaqina) Castillo, Jose Castillo, Sammy Salinas, Maria (Julian) Ybarra and Sandy Vasquez.

Those left to mourn are her children, Oscar (Genoveva) Carabajal, Alicia Carabajal (Pablo) Martinez, Diana Carabajal (Luis) Montelongo, Sandra Carabajal (Mark) Rash and Maricella Carabajal (Robert) Steed; siblings, Olga (Inosencio) Vasquez, Rosa (Roberto) Munoz, Gloria (Felipe) Ybarra, Connie (Ernesto) Leal and stepbrother, Juan Salinas III. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm on Tuesday, February 4, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, February 5, at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Jacob Valayath as celebrant.

Interment will follow at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.

Her children will be serving as her pallbearers to carry her to her final resting place as she carried them throughout their lives. Honorary pallbearers will be her daughter, Linda Silvas, dec’d and her grandchildren, Marissa Carabajal (Jay) Brionez, Gabriel (Eliza) Carabajal, Pricilla Carabajal (Gerard) Moreno, Nicole Carabajal (Matthew) Silva, Lisa Martinez, Paul (Leonor) Martinez, Annisa Montelongo, Aaron (Alexandria) Rash, Nick Silvas, David (Jaslynn) Garcia, Diego Carabajal and all her great grandchildren.
