Ernesto (Ernest) A. Cano, Sr., 60, passed away on April 16, 2024, in Victoria, Texas. He was born on November 12, 1963, in Mathis, Texas to Juan C. and Juanita (Amaro) Cano. He had worked for 15 years with Stewart Stevenson in Corpus Christi, Texas and had retired, after 20 years, as a correctional officer from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Beeville.
Ernest loved hunting, fishing, and watching football, especially the Beeville Trojans and the Dallas Cowboys.
He is preceded in death by his father, Juan C. Cano and one grandchild.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Ninfa (Nancy) Cano; his children, John (Toni) Trevino, Ernesto Cano, Jr., Teresa (Henry) Rodriguez of Hondo, and Mario G. Cano; grandchildren, Nathalia Castaneda, and Daniella Castaneda; his mother, Juanita Cano and two siblings, Patrica Cano, and Refugio Cano. He will also be missed by his loving pets.
A visitation will be held from 3-8 pm on Tuesday, April 23, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, April 24, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Beeville Memorial Park Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are John T. Trevino, Ernesto Cano, Jr., Mario G. Cano, Henry Rodriguez, Fernando Galvan, Gerald Salinas, Cotton Loya, and Michael Canfield.
Honorary pallbearers are Teresa Cano and Rylan Canfield.
