Erasmo (Eddie) Cortez Obituary

BEEVILLE – Erasmo (Eddie) Cortez, 68, passed away on January 21, 2023, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on March 21, 1954, in Oakville, Texas to Frank and Maria (Carabajal) Cortez. He married Delia Tapia on January 29, 1972, in Beeville, Texas. He was a retired automobile mechanic.


     He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank Cortez, Jr and Raul Cortez and one sister, Christina Cortez.


     He is survived by his wife, Delia T. Cortez; one daughter, Irma (Andrew) Otte of Castroville; his son, Joe Edward (Kristi) Cortez of Odem; five grandchildren, Crystal Hargrove, Taylor Otte, Lauren Cortez, Danielle Cortez and Ryan James Cortez; his mother, Maria Cortez of Beeville; his siblings, Hilda (Floyd) Weaver, Anita (Oliver) Esparza, Olga (Cecil) Diaz, Mary (Carlos Perez) Cortez, Velma (Ruben) Posada, Connie (Joe) Garza, Sylvia (Johnny) Silvas, Belia (Juan) Rodriguez, Rachel (Joe) Gutierrez and Michael (Nelda) Chapa.


     Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. The holy rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday, Jan. 26, at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Jacob Valayath as celebrant. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.


     Serving as pallbearers are Michael Chapa, Julio Vasquez, Roland Tapia, Ramiro Tapia, Richard Tapia, Jr. and John “Sapo” Gutierrez.


     Honorary pallbearers are Oliver Esparza, Juan Rodriguez, Cecil Diaz, and Richard Diaz.
