Emilio Montez, 87, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 9, 1938, in Edcouch, Texas, to Santiago and Magdalena Montez. A proud veteran who served 24 years in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, Emilio lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, and devotion to those he loved. Known for his strong work ethic, steady strength, and gentle kindness, he approached every task with dedication and every person with warmth and respect. His family was his greatest joy, and his example of strength, humility, and love will continue to guide and inspire them. Emilio will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Santiago and Magdalena Montez; one son, Gary Lee Montez; brother, Santiago Montez, Jr; his sister, Maria L. Montez Ramirez; son-in-law, Ray Martinez; great grandson, Randy Martinez Tamez and great granddaughter, Clarice Jolee Barrera.
He is survived by his three daughters, JoAnn (Jesse) Gonzales, Maggie Martinez and June (Tony) Flores; 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his former spouse and lifelong friend, Genoveva Hernandez.
A visitation will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 30, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Salvador Rincon officiating. Rendering of full military honors by the US. Army will follow the services.
