Debra Cano Benitez, 65, of Beeville, Texas, passed away on April 20, 2025. Born in Beeville, Texas on October 22, 1959. Debra spent most of her life in the community she loved. She was known for her selfless nature, contagious laugh, and the way she lit up every room she entered. A caregiver for the elderly for many years, Debra touched countless lives with her compassion and generosity. Debra enjoyed crafting, researching her family tree, and riding around town playing Pokémon GO. She was a second mom to many, always willing to lend a helping hand, a listening ear, or a warm hug. She will be remembered for her kind heart, giving spirit, and the love she poured into everyone around her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gregorio and Eufemia Cano; two brothers, Louis Rodriguez and Eidan “Danny” O. Cano, Sr. and one sister, Biolanda Garcia.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and is survived by her husband, Jorge Mario Benitez; three children: Andrea Rachelle Benitez, Jorge Mario Benitez Jr., and Gabriel Lee Benitez; two grandchildren, Autumn Bailee Benitez and Colton Rone Benitez; and three grand dogs, Sweet Dee, Enjoli, and Lola. She is survived by her brothers; Gregorio Cano, Sr. (Berta), Omar Cano, Sr., Miguel Cano, Sr. (Estella), Noel Cano, Sr., Prajedes Rodriguez Jr., Feliciano Cano, Sr. (Estrella) and her sisters; Eufemia Benitez (Ramiro), Virginia Caballero (Mike), Margarita Moreno, Rose Marie Arredondo, Elidora Garza, Baudelia Guerra, and Maria Pacheco.
A visitation will be held from 3-8 pm on Thursday, April 24, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, April 25, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Gutierrez as celebrant. Interment will follow at Beeville Memorial Park Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Ramiro Benitez Jr, Jay Arredondo, Eidan Cano Jr, John Wayne Caballero, Noe Cano Jr and Juan E. Guerrero.
