David Moreno Salazar, a proud veteran of the US Army, passed away on January 13, 2025 at his home in Alvin, TX.
The son of Monseis and Gloria Salazar, David grew up in Beeville, TX. He was born on January 29, 1948, and attended AC Jones High School and Bee County College, earning an Associate’s Degree in Mid Management.
David was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and served from 1968-70. He served as a Postmaster on base and exited the Army as a Specialist 5.
In 1972, David met Gladys Koehler and knew he wanted to marry her. They married in 1973 and began their life together in Beeville. In 1977, the couple decided to move to the Houston area. Not after, David began his career as a Process Operator at Monsanto (Solutia) Chemical Plant. He worked for the company for 25 years, retiring in 2004.
After retirement, David found joy in spending time with his family, visiting the Casino, and relaxing at home with Gladys and his cats.
David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gladys Koehler Salazar, his son Jeff Salazar, and his daughter Mindy Dittfurth (husband Jon and daughter Samantha). He is also survived by brothers and sisters Gerald (Nora) Salazar, Alma (John) Martinez, Sylvia Salinas, Albert (Lucy) Salazar, Armando (Linda) Salazar, Blanca (Daniel) Ramos, Linda (James) Hogue, and Sandra (Joel) Castaneda, as well as his beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father Monseis Salazar, Sr., his mother Gloria Salazar, and siblings Adan Salazar, Monseis Salazar, Jr. and Rosa Camacho.
A time of visitation will be held at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel in Beeville on Wednesday, January 22 at 5 pm followed by a prayer service at 7 pm. A celebration of the life of David M. Salazar will be held on Thursday, January 23 at 1 pm.
Interment with full military honors will follow at Beeville Memorial Park Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Allen Frieze, Michael Garza, Justin Garza, Nathan Castaneda, Jonathan Salazar and Zachary Valverde.
