David M. Rivas, 85, passed away on July 6, 2025, at his residence. He was born on March 27, 1940, in Live Oak County, Texas to Paulino and Eulalia (Mejia) Rivas. He worked for several years at Aztec Chevrolet and had retired from St. Mary’s Academy.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Paulino and Eulalia Rivas; three brothers, Andres, Adan and Natividad Rivas; three sisters, Magdalena Garcia, Ofilia Benavidez and Eva Martinez; four brothers-in-law, Jesse Garza, Paul Benavidez, Victor Rodriguez, Sr and Joe Angel Martinez and one sisters-in-law, Amelia Rivas and Lupita (Rudy) Alcala.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Z. Rivas; children, Ruby Rivas (Alverico Saenz), David Ray Rivas, Marisa Villarreal (Anthony) and Manuel Rivas (Ashley Wolverton); nine grandchildren, Crystal Rivas, Leticia Garza, Cynthia Garza, Gabrielle Villarreal, Noah Garza, David Lee Rivas, Rodney Villarreal, Carmen Rivas and Raul A. Villarreal, Jr; seven great grandchildren, Aleena Martinez, Audrina Martinez, Ariana Martinez, Alexiah Ortiz, Addy Garza, Alyse Garza and Jaslean Rivas; his siblings, Maria Rodriguez, Ezequiel Rivas (Ruth) and Olga Garza.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm on Thursday, July 10, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. A prayer service will be held at 7 pm. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday, July 11, at Bethel Pentecostal Church (609 S. Minneapolis St) with Pastor Juan Martinez officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are David Lee Rivas, Noah Garza, Rodney Villarreal, Anthony Villarreal, Mingo Garcia and Jesse Garcia. Honorary pallbearers are Jason Garza, Jr, Zeke Rivas, Alverico Saenz, Anthony Villarreal, Sr and Eddie Garcia.
