It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved, Augustin “Gus” Canas, age 61. He was born on March 5, 1964, in Mathis, Texas to Ramiro Sr. and Rachel Canas.
Gus was the life of any and every party. He loved to sing and dance and the Chicago Bears. He was always hard at work, always lent a helping hand to anyone in need and loved his family and friends tremendously. Gus took great pride in being a father and grandfather, he was proud of his sons and grandchildren. Gus was a stranger to none; He was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ramiro Sr. and Rachel Canas, three brothers, George, Joe and Epigmenio Canas and one sister, Josie Canas.
He is survived by his companion Neri Valdez; five brothers, Ramiro Jr. (Elvia) Canas, Juan (Rose) Canas, Oscar Canas, Fred Canas and Epigmenio (Darcy) Canas; three sisters, Clara Menchaca, Martha (Tony) Lopez and Rachel (Michael) Garza; children, Gabriel (Bianca) Banda, Jacob (Amanda) Banda, Oscar (Abigail) Banda and Augustin “Augie” Canas Jr.; nine grandchildren: Jaron and Bubba Banda, Derek, Brayden, Delani and Kodi Banda, Aubri-Rae, Alaurah and Rylnn Banda.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm on Wednesday, August 20, at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. A rosary and memorial service will be held at 7 pm with Deacon Roger Rosenbaum officiating. Cremation services will follow.
