Abelardo G. Hernandez, age 83, of Beeville, Texas, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, October 26, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Abelardo was born on September 6, 1942, in Kenedy, Texas, to Manuel Hernandez and Julia Garza. He was lovingly raised by his grandmother and two tias.
On November 17, 1963, he married his beloved late wife, Margarita G. Hernandez. Together they shared 42 years of love and built a beautiful life.
Abelardo was a devoted father to four children. A quiet man of few words but a heart full of love and strength, Abelardo worked hard all his life — both at B.A. Box and as a dedicated rancher. A true cowboy at heart, he found peace in the outdoors, whether it was hunting, breaking horses, or simply enjoying the open land. A man of deep faith, Abelardo lived his life with humility and gratitude. He loved his coffee black and could never resist the breakfast tacos his daughter would sneak into the nursing home — small moments that brought him great joy. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be remembered for his quiet wisdom, hardworking spirit, and the deep love he had for his family and the simple things in life.
Abelardo is survived by his son, George (Mary Lou) Hernandez; daughter, Viola H. Garcia; aunt, Santos Castañeda and his sister, Ramona Montemayor. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Desiree (Johnny III) Ramirez, Cody J. Hernandez, Brittany (David) Gonzales, Julissa R. Martinez, and Kaylee Rae Hernandez. He is also survived by nine precious great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Margarita G. Hernandez; his son, Abelardo Hernandez Jr.; his daughter, Julia A. Martinez; three brothers, Simon Rincon, Moises Hernandez, and Narciso Hernandez, and his sister, Barbara (Lita) Hernandez.
Funeral services will be held at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, October 29th at 3:00 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, October 30th at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Isaac De Los Santos officiating. Burial will follow at Beeville Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Sam Montemayor, Ram Garza Jr, David R. Gonzales, J.R. Martinez, Ronald Aleman and Ernest Rincon.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers, nurses, and staff at Hacienda Oaks and New Century Hospice in Beeville, Texas, for their care and compassion.
Abelardo will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
